Female history geeks

Samurai and Sengoku warlords have become popular again in Japan. Check out the post at cartoonleap.com that describes the phenomenon.

For some reason the samurai warlords from over 400 years ago are especially popular among women in Japan. These women are called rekijo or female history geeks. Maybe it is due to the samurai period dramas on TV such as the NHK Taiaga dramas. Maybe the women are more enamored with the actors that play the warlords.

  1. I am truly amazed by this. Most of the Sengoku novels sold at the San Diego Book-Off branch are bought by women. Good for them for pushing the Sengoku Era to the max. Sengoku women history studies is now more available and that is a good thing.

However, there is one drawback. Now some of the Sengoku movies made recently are chick-flicks.

  2. I agree it is good if more people are exposed to this history, that is why I post about J history. I want people to know about it.

It is true about the Sengoku chick-flicks. I think that is why many of the actors were chosen for the NHK drama Tenchijin.

  3. I can see the attraction - modern politicians are generally an insipid lot!
